You are what you eat. Well not exactly. When it comes to running it’s more like, you feel what and when you eat. Fuel too much, too soon and you may as well be running in pursuit of Tums Antacid. Inadequate intake can be equally disastrous. No athlete, no matter how well trained is immune from foginess, bonking, and ‘going low’ when not fueled properly. The aforementioned terrible sensations are self-inflicted. Taking command of your fueling decisions will empower your running. Both content and timing play influential roles in preparedness to run effectively. Make your target for your final pre-run meal at least 3-4 hours prior to your run. 1-2 hours out it’s extremely beneficial to consume 200-300 calories.
